Gildan's products reach their end consumers via a diverse client base, including wholesale distributors, screen printers, embellishers, traditional retailers, and lifestyle brand companies. The enterprise, founded in 1946, was initially known as Textiles Gildan Inc. before officially changing its name to Gildan Activewear Inc. in March 1995. Its corporate headquarters are located in Montreal, Canada.
